New Para-cycling event in The Netherlands

This week (4-8 april) The Healthy Aging Tour will take place in Groningen and Friesland. In addition to the elite women and junior women race, Para-cycling has been added to the program of the stage race as third category this year. The race is next to the Para-cycling World Cup, in Emmen in July this year, the second Dutch race on the international calendar of the UCI cycling federation.

Season opener

The Healthy Aging Tour Para-cycling will be held on Wednesday 4 April, Thursday 5 April and Friday 6 April. The stage race in the north of the Netherlands is the opening of the road season for many Para-cycling athletes. At the end of March several participants appeared at the start of the UCI Para-cycling Track world championships. On the track of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), the Dutch team collected 11 medals, including no less than 5 gold. The Frisian Alyda Norbruis became world champion at three different distances. Norbruis is without doubt determined to show something beautiful in her own province Friesland as well.

Course and participants

As with the elite women and junior women, Heerenveen is the starting point for the race on Wednesday. At the Abe Lenstraboulevard - near the stadium of football club sc Heerenveen - is the start of an individual time trial. A day later a tour through the Westerkwartier with Grootegast as the start and finish location follows. The final stage on Friday starts and ends in Winschoten and takes place around the Oldamptmeer. In the Para-cycling competition both men and women participate. The race is further divided into categories with competitions for the C-class (C1-C5) and the tandem class (B1-B2).

Good luck to all participants!
